In-Store Workshops

New in 2008! In response to many customer requests, we’re offering several workshops in the store throughout the summer and fall. As seating is limited, pre-registration with a non-refundable reservation fee will be required for each attendee, as noted below, on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call us at 763-241-4663 during store hours to register. Workshop attendees will be given a $5 credit toward any purchase made the evening of the workshop. All workshops will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will last 1½ - 2 hours.

2008 Workshop Schedule
  • Tuesday, July 22nd - Where Do I Begin? New Homeschoolers Night! - Nancy Bjorkman
    Non-refundable registration fee: $10.00 (includes same-night $5 store credit)

Considering homeschooling? Not sure where to begin? This workshop will help define several different learning and teaching styles used by homeschooling families. We will then explore resources and curriculum to fit your family’s particular style. You’ll have the opportunity to look at, compare, and discuss curriculum for all grade levels right here in the store. Similar workshops were well attended and well received by new and prospective homeschoolers at homeschool conferences in Nebraska, Kansas City, and St. Paul earlier this year.

  • Tuesday, August 19th - Homeschooling Your Highschooler - Nancy Bjorkman
    Non-refundable registration fee: $10.00 (includes same-night $5 store credit)

This interactive workshop will help to answer frequently asked questions about homeschooling through the high school years. We will consider course requirements, transcripts, record keeping, curriculum choices, post secondary opportunities, co-ops, CLEP and other testing options, resumes, scholarship opportunities and more.

  • Tuesday, September 16th - Math Outside the Book: Games for Math - Nancy Bjorkman
    Non-refundable registration fee: $10.00 (includes same-night $5 store credit)\

In this highly visual and interactive workshop Nancy will share many resources to help you teach math concepts outside of the traditional textbook. She will share with you games, manipulatives, and lesser known programs that just might be the ticket to better math understanding for your children. Make math come to life by learning to use your curriculum as a springboard rather than a chore.

  • Tuesday, October 14th - Time and Home Management - Nancy Bjorkman
    Non-refundable registration fee: $10.00 (includes same-night $5 store credit)

Time Management does NOT mean scheduling. It includes scheduling. Time must be budgeted just like money - We must determine the difference between the fixed - what we must do - and the discretionary - what we would like to do and set our priorities. This workshop will be filled with practical tips and encouragement for everyday living as a homeschool family. Areas covered include understanding your calling, relationships, schooling, household clutter & cleaning, and general household management. Attendees will leave with practical and applicable tips.

  • Tuesday, November 11th - Meal Management in an Age of Fast Food - Nancy Bjorkman
    Non-refundable registration fee: $10.00 (includes same-night $5 store credit)

Explore the reasons and how-to’s of once-a-month cooking and several other methods of meal planning. Save time, money and energy while enjoying quick, healthy meals. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll wonder why you waited.

This workshop will explore many ideas for managing the daily chore of feeding your family. The talk will include the benefits and methods for bulk cooking. I will teach about the savings seen in time, energy, money, stress levels and nutrition, as well as the increased enjoyment in sharing hospitality with others. We will then look at the how-to’s for getting it done and some of the resources available to get people on their way.
